Teaching Assistant: Advanced Course on Teaching for Graduate Assistants (UNIV 0251)
Seeking an advanced doctoral student to assist in the teaching of a new online course UNIV 0251, a one credit online course that provides advanced training in course and assignment design and teaching techniques for GW graduate assistants who will become course instructors. This 20-hour per week position will be for spring 2024; hours will be flexible. The position is eligible to be renewed for additional semesters based on performance. It involves grading and providing feedback on assignments, managing communications with students, and assisting with other duties as needed.
The ideal candidate will have successfully completed the foundational GTAP Certification Course (UNIV0250), possess some teaching experience, and have excellent writing skills. This new course is taught by GW’s Faculty Development office within the Libraries and Academic Innovation Division and this position supports this effort. We are excited to involve a doctoral student who is interested in effective teaching and in supporting graduate student colleagues in their development as teachers.

Prerequisites
Has successfully completed the UNIV 0250, the GA Certification course
Doctoral student
Teaching Experience: At least one semester as an instructor of a full course or several semesters as a graduate teaching assistant with substantial instructional responsibilities
Skills
High comfort level with Blackboard and online discussion facilitation
Experience with grading (including use of rubrics) and providing written feedback on assignments
Strong oral and written communication skills (including maintaining confidentiality)
Knowledge of assessment and active learning best practices in higher education
Strong time management skill
Experience working on a team
Interest in teaching and learning needs at a research university
Compensation
Tuition fellowship of 3 credit hours
Graduate Assistantship of $5,000 as payment for services for 20 hours per week
Beginning January 01, 2024 and ending May 31, 2024
